Welcome to the more-or-less official Ed Quillen website

Mug shot of Ed Quillen

In essense, this site is an archive of my columns, articles, essays, blog posts, and speeches from 1984 to the near-present. At last count, it held 2,720 items, mostly newspaper columns.

Near-present means the site is updated about once a month. My contract with the Denver Post allows columns to be posted here three days after publication, and I retain the copyright. High Country News retains copyright on material I write for the magazine, the GOAT or Range blog, or the Writers on the Range syndicate, but I have permission to post it here three months after publication there. Other media have their rules, and there are some who do not allow me to post the work I do for them.

Material that is available on the Web, but not yet on this site, is listed here.

Everything on this site is copyrighted, and if you wish to use this material for anything other than personal reading (i.e., reprinting in a newsletter or the like) then you need permission from the copyright holder (listed with each item), which is generally either Ed Quillen or High Country News.

There's nothing fancy about this site. I am not a musician or an artist, so you won't find tunes or animation here or anything else in the way of multi-media. My job is putting one word after another, and so this site is primarily words -- about 2,037,902 of them.

This site is organized chronologically, and is designed for easy reading -- and, I hope, for enjoyable reading. The last general update was on January 8, 2012.

In August of 2011, the Denver Post decided to save money by cutting me from six columns a month to four. So I need more paying work; if you have or know of some writing, research or editing work, please contact me.
